Peanut Butter Dog Biscuit Recipe
Peanut Butter Dog Biscuits
Ingredients
150g Organic Rolled Oats (blended into a flour) – try using Whole Food Earth jumbo oats, such as these from Amazon, but most supermarkets sell them too.
50g Peanut Butter (make sure it’s plain with no sugar / sweeteners such as xylitol) – we use Meridian Crunchy Peanut Butter, it’s 100% peanuts.
50ml water
1 medium egg (if your dog has an egg allergy, then just leave the egg out and increase the amount of water)
Method
Pre-heat your oven to 200C.
Blitz the oats in a blender so it becomes a flour, then pour it into a large bowl.
Add the peanut butter, egg and water, and mix with a spoon so the mixture clumps together. If it’s too wet add some more flour, if it’s too dry add a little water. It should just come together and not be too sticky.
Using your hands, squeeze the mixture into a dough.
Sprinkle some extra oat flour onto your kitchen surface and roll out the dough with a rolling pin.
Once it’s about 0.5cm thick, use a cookie cutter (any size you like) and cut out the biscuits.
Place all the biscuits onto a large oven proof baking tray lined with baking paper, and cook in the over for 15 – 20 minutes. They should be slightly golden in colour, and be firm all through.
Let them cool down and see what your furry friend thinks!
Alternatives
Why not add a mashed banana? Omit the water and see how the dough comes together, adding a little water if needed. You might only need about half a banana to replace the water, alternative use a whole banana and double the other ingredients.
Also, the banana version can need slightly longer to cook and will darken quicker due to the natural sugars present in it. I tend to cook at a lower temperature, about 190C for about 15 mins, then reduce the temperature of the oven to about 160C and cook until complete, but keep checking every 5 minutes or so.
You could also try replacing the peanut butter with Almond Butter, which is a fab alternative.
